Custom Car Pete: 2011 Ford Edge with the 3.5 I tested for bidirectional control of the cooling fan and I didn’t have any control. I then back probed the connection from the fan motors and tried bidirectional control again and it would light my test bulb for about 2 seconds. I then unplugged the fans and supplied them with battery voltage and tapped on them and each fan would start to spin. I replaced the cooling fan assembly and now bidirectional control was working. Cleared the codes now all is working as it should. This code also was accompanied with P1285 cylinder head temp too high and P1299 cylinder head overtemperature protection active.
